This is certainly a busy, busy weekend for us. And it isn't over yet!
Friday evening we went to the Redhawks game. The start of the game was delayed half an hour by a small rain shower parked right over downtown. We got rained on while walking to the ballpark, but by the time we got some food and found our seats we were treated to a full rainbow that lasted for about 20 minutes.
And later a brilliant set of supernumerary arcs, though you can barely see them in the photo.
The game itself was disappointing. The Redhawks self destructed in the 7th inning and lost the game. But the fireworks afterwards was definitely worth waiting for.
On Saturday afternoon we went over to Jonah's house for his first birthday party (though his birthday isn't until the 27th). He proudly demonstrated for us all that he has now decided to walk.
Jonah went swimming.
Opened lots of presents.
And had two cakes!
My video of everyone singing Happy Birthday is a bit too large for VOX and since I upgraded my Kodak software it won't let me edit videos unless I buy more software to go with it. If I can figure out how to cut the thing down with what I've got I'll post it later. In the mean time, here's what I can show you.
After we left Jonah's house we went to a cookout in memory of our friend Tom. I haven't transferred the pictures of that to my computer yet, but I will after we get home from Claire's birthday party this afternoon and will post about both of those later.
Jonah is walking now, but he's really still too chicken to take off without something to hang on to (though every now and then he takes a couple of steps when he isn't thinking about it). I didn't get any pictures of him at all when he came over for his "Day with Grammie" this month because he screams when he's not touching me (I can't even put him down for a nap after he's fallen asleep!) On Father's Day we went over to his house for dinner and I was able to shoot this little video of him.
A fun day was had by all. Well, except for the part Jonah slept through. But he really liked the rest of it.
A lot of these pictures were taken at the new Oklahoma Trails exhibit. It's huge. I don't think we saw much more than a third of the entire zoo today. Good thing we bought a membership so we can go back another day to see what all we missed!
Today is my day to watch Jonah. Grampa Kenny is playing hooky from work and we're going to the zoo. Hope to have pictures later.
Jonah wants to say something--"b b b c vubnnnnnnny hyjuiiuyhgbfgbj"
Yesterday I accompanied Ken to one of the local outdoors & hunting goods stores. Turkey season is getting ready to start and they were having some seminars on the topic which Ken wanted to attend. [1] Even though I have no intention of taking up hunting I did find the whole thing very interesting. While we were there we naturally had to look around the store to see if there was anything we needed to buy. [2] I found this awesome little chair that I just know Jonah is going to need when he gets a little bigger.
The description doesn't mention the best part--It glows in the dark! Yup. I'm a sucker for most anything that glows in the dark. It also comes in a larger size for bigger kids. I may have to get one of those to store away for much later.
[1] This will be his first year to hunt turkeys.
[2] The primary reason a smart retailer holds events like this.
Yesterday afternoon after the air conditioning guys left Jonah and I finally got to get out and go to the neighborhood park. On the way out we stopped and took some pictures of the flowers blooming in my yard.
It took us about 15 minutes to walk to the park. We had to stop and visit with a neighbor lady along the way. Once we got there we played on the swings, crawled around on the ground, and watched some bigger kids play on the swings and slides.
Jonah has finally learned that he's supposed to smile when Grammie holds up that funny little box with the flashing lights.
On the way home we saw the healthiest patch of henbit I think I've ever seen.
After we got back home we kicked back on the front steps to enjoy the afternoon for a while longer. It was a good day.
In addition to now being able to crawl and pull himself up I've noticed a couple of new tricks this morning:
1. Jonah can now announce when he's hungry.
Jonah: Ba-ba-ba
Grammie: Do you want a bottle?
Jonah: bounces and grins
2. Spitting up is much less annoying if you lean forward a little bit so it lands on the floor between your legs instead of down the front of your shirt (he's done this twice this morning so I'm pretty sure it's no accident).
He also managed to pull all the toys out of his toy basket and, after tasting each one, deposit them all over the floor. He's finally down for his morning nap. This afternoon we're hoping to make our first outing to the neighborhood park.
Today is my day to watch Jonah. This is the first time he's been over since Christmas (well, OK, he was here for dinner last night). So many things have changed. He has his first tooth (you can barely see it, but you can sure feel it!), he can sit up all by himself, he can roll over, and today he crawled for the first time. Lucky for his mom I caught that on video.
Well, I guess the Grammie sickness is really taking over. I got a bit carried away and baked cookies for Christmas this year. I know it's the Grammie sickness because I kept thinking that I needed to make sure the cookies are small so they will fit in Jonah's tiny little hands. Yes, I know he can't eat cookies this year, but he will be able to next year. This was a trial run. Even though I only baked 4 kinds I ended up with well over 20 dozen because of the size.
