Well, at least temporarily. Just got back from my latest attempt to donate platelets. Everything went just fine until they stuck the big needle in my arm. Couldn't get one single drop of blood to flow. Three different people tried. Guess I've been drained dry. No, actually the needle picked up a tissue plug that it couldn't pass and, therefore, my blood couldn't get in. Seems that becomes pretty common when you stick a needle in the same vein over and over again. It starts building up lots of scar tissue that can form these plugs. The veins in my other arm are completely useless so this one has to do all the work. We'll try again in a few days.
When was the last time you drove out of town?
How far out is out? Yesterday I took my mother to the doctor. I live in Oklahoma City and she lives in Edmond. Does that count? If not, I'll have to go with April 17,18 & 19. Drove to Perkins for a quilt retreat. And, of course, every Wednesday I drive to Guthrie for Girls' Day Out. In spite of all that out of town driving I'm putting less than half the number of miles on my car now than when I had to drive to my quilt store 5 days a week. Go figure.
As you know, we're down to doing little cosmetic things in my studio. While I was gone this past weekend Ken finally got around to putting up the display rod for my quilts. Not only can I now enjoy looking at my quilts, I can actually get them vertical for picture taking purposes (a must for quilt show entry forms). Of course, I'll have to stand on a ladder to get even with them, but that's not a problem!
I'm back from my retreat. Had a fabulous time. Well, except for the massive allergy attack. My sister and I decided to sleep with the window open Thursday night as a cold front had just passed through early in the evening. The air was cool and crisp. Perfect for sleeping. I forgot about the tree pollens being through the roof and so didn't double up on my allergy meds ahead of time. I paid for it the rest of the weekend. Now that I'm home I'm feeling much better. Didn't let all the sneezing slow me down though!
I took way more projects than I had time for. I started off working on a quilt top that I began 2 years ago. I had purchased a fat quarter pack of Moda's Picket Fence while visiting my friend Pam in Ft. Worth. I worked on it all day Thursday and got it finished on Friday. The pattern is one of my own designs.
Saturday afternoon I finished up an old shop sample that still needed borders. After that I started doing the same to another old sample, but didn't quite get it done.
Friday night was show and share. There are many talented women in this group and we had lots of lovely quilts to share.
Got this from Kzinti.
1. I fell in love with astronomy in the 3rd grade. It was the first year they gave us science textbooks in school. I clearly remember sitting down at my desk with the book and looking through it while the teacher continued handing out books to the rest of the class. As I was flipping through the book I came across a two page spread that was an illustration of the Solar System. The Sun was off to the left and all the planets were shown in their orbits around it. Jupiter and Saturn (especially Saturn) had my undivided attention. I was hooked. No, I didn't end up with a career in astronomy. But when I went to college I did choose physics as my major with every intention at the time of getting a PhD. in astronomy.
2. I enjoy reading trashy historical romance novels.
3. I am ambidextrous. When I first started learning to write at about age 4 I chose my left hand. One day my dad decided to put the pencil in my right hand to see if he could get me to write with that hand instead. I immediately started writing everything in mirror image from right to left on the paper. He put the pencil back in my left hand.
4. My favorite subject in school was math.
5. I am a trained massage therapist.
6. I drive a Saturn.
7. I am an adventurous eater, but you knew that if you've been reading my blog.
8. I hate housework.
I'm on my way out the door for a big weekend of quilting. 40 women at a church camp in Perkins, OK with a fabulous quilt store just 6 blocks away! Lots of food, lots of friends (new and old), and lots and lots of sewing. I'll take pictures and let you know about all the fun after I get home Saturday evening.
In addition to the 4 pigs and mushrooms Ken brought home this weekend he also brought home the prized possessions of the large pig. We had them for dinner this evening. Here they are after they were peeled (those little devils did NOT want to come out of their sacs) and soaked in beer for two hours (can you say "happy balls?"). Each one is about the size of my fist.
Here they are cooking.
And here they are ready to eat. I made hush puppies with the left over breading.
As we were sitting down to dinner Ken informed me that he had primarily brought them home as a joke, but was fully prepared to eat them if I cooked them. They were quite tasty and he plans on bringing more home.
A few weeks ago I told myself that I really need to get out and start walking on a regular basis. Standing in front of a quilting machine all day does not provide one with much exercise. I enjoy walking, but I'm really not that good at doing it just for the sake of doing it. Give me somewhere to walk to and I'll go. I needed an incentive to get out and go. I found a couple. It's really not too hard to get out and walk the neighborhood this time of year. The nice thing about springtime is that things look different every day. A plant or tree that was dormant yesterday might be covered with flowers or tiny leaves today. There's always something new to see. I try to remember to take my camera with me and sometimes stop along the way to take pictures. And the weather is usually nice. Not too hot or too cold. So far I've been managing to get out and walk at least 3-4 times each week. My path is about 1.25 miles long. Perhaps this habit will become firmly ingrained before the hot weather sets in.
Here are some pictures I've taken over the last few days.
What's holding you back from your dream job?

Absolutely nothing. I'm doing it.
