What an ambitious project! It is beautiful!! I'm sure it will be even nicer when it is finished, but the fabric selection is fantastic! Keep us posted on your progress.

It looks great!

I just took on a commission too. I don't normally do that -- but I am making a Ferret pattern. He is actually coming along and is very cute if I do say so myself.

I love the fabric choices in this quilt. the movement is incredible. I also like the symbolism of gold.

I would NEVER have the patience to do this...but it makes me want to!

Cool! I find that doing such work for others actually helps to spark my creativity for my own work.

This is by no means a beginner pattern, but if you've mastered your quarter inch seam and can handle gentle curves (the instructions explain it very well) these templates make it very doable.

I'm a quilter too, and I'm in awe, for the double wedding ring pattern has always terrified me. It's coming together beautifully. Are you going to applique them on, or peice them into the background using templates?

PS: Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving your comments :-)

The whole thing will be pieced from templates.
You'll have a lot of drawing and cutting out to do then! Are you peicing by hand or machine?

I'm a firm believer in the rotary cutter and templates as well as cutting multiple layers of fabric at one time. The 1778 pieces I have sewn together so far took a little less than 4 1/2 hours to cut and about 12 hours to sew.

It's all machine pieced and will be machine quilted (I have a long arm quilting machine).

I'm a hand-sewer ... what you've taken 16 and a half hours to do would probably take me 16 and a half months ;-)

You sound like you have all the tools of the trade. Can I come live with you? :-D
I love hand piecing and quilting, too, I just can't do it fast enough to make any money from it. Before I bought the long arm 6 years ago I hand quilted everything I made. I've always got a hand work project going, I just don't have the time to get them done!
I'm not game to try machine piecing and quilting for two reasons:

1) Sewing machines don't like me. I managed to put a machine needle through the middle finger of my right hand when I was five, and I've never used one since!
2) I lack the room in my tiny flat to be able to set up a space where I could work.

You're certainly right about hand piecing taking time. At the moment, I'm working on a medallion quilt for myself using Wuthering Heights by Moda, whilst also helping my mother make some Jacob's Ladder blocks for a quilt that she's working on. Since I've started a new job, I'm lucky if I can get one block done every two days. As for my quilt? Forget it, LOL!
I can certainly understand your distrust of machines. I keep waiting for the day I get my finger in the way of the needle on my long arm. That thing is huge!

I'd love to see pictures of your medallion quilt. I love that design format and Wuthering Heights is a great fabric line. Moda fabrics are hugely popular in my area. Not just because they're beautiful, but because their offices are just a couple of hundred miles south of here in Dallas, Texas. Until the recent run up in gas prices it was almost cheaper for a shop owner to drive down to their warehouse to buy fabric and haul it home themselves than it was to order it and have it shipped!
